Despite being the generation most concerned about the climate crisis, Gen Z continues to support the fast fashion industry, which is a major contributor to global carbon emissions. Experts warn that the industry is on track to consume a significant portion of the world’s carbon budget by 2050.

Many Gen Zers feel guilty after purchasing from fast fashion brands like Shein or Fashion Nova, but cite the high cost of living and pressure to stay updated on trends as reasons for their purchases. Some are turning to thrifting and vintage shopping as a more eco-friendly alternative.

While thrifting and vintage shopping are gaining popularity among eco-conscious consumers, the convenience and affordability of fast fashion continue to attract many Gen Zers. The dilemma between caring for the planet and staying fashionable is a common struggle for this generation.
