The Reason Why Nick Jonas Felt Anxious About Singing in ‘The Good Half’ Film

Exclusive Look at Nick Jonas in ‘The Good Half’: EW’s 2024 Summer Preview

Nick Jonas, known for his musical talents as a member of the Jonas Brothers, is taking on a new challenge in his upcoming film “The Good Half.” In this comedic drama, Jonas plays Renn Wheeland, a struggling writer dealing with unresolved issues in his life after the death of his mother. As Renn navigates his grief, he forms a new connection with a fellow passenger, Zoey, played by Alexandra Shipp.

One of the most challenging scenes for Jonas in the film was when Renn is convinced to sing at a karaoke bar. Unlike his usual performances, Renn is just an average guy with an okay singing voice, and Jonas found it difficult to strike the right balance between sounding good and not too polished. Despite his nerves, Jonas embraced the challenge and found a way to make the scene authentic to his character’s journey.

Filming “The Good Half” in his home state of New Jersey brought back memories for Jonas, including shooting in locations where he and his brothers had performed early in their career. This film marks a new milestone for Jonas as he takes on his first lead role in a feature film, showcasing his growth as an actor.

While “The Good Half” tackles heavy themes like loss and grief, Jonas appreciated the script’s balance of humor and the stillness of the story. Drawing on his own experiences with grief, Jonas was able to connect with Renn’s journey and hopes that audiences will also find solace in the film’s message that it’s okay not to be okay and that healing takes time.

“The Good Half” will be hitting select theaters through Fathom Events screenings on July 23 and July 25, offering audiences a chance to see Jonas in a new light as he delivers a thoughtful and heartfelt performance in this emotional film.
